This is a terrific perspective as always. So we might say that Zen is a tiny, personal act of resistance, reclaiming a measure of our attention for ourselves? It is beyond the reach of the many forces commodifying our attention for profit.

Absolutely!

As an aside: the paper that kicked off the current AI revolution was called "Attention is all you need". The researchers came up with this clever mechanism (the transformer) that figured out how to focus on what's important in the vast sea of data. It was a real breakthrough in helping AI systems make sense of the world.
